PHOTOS: Here's What You Missed at South Street Spring Fest and Gemran Maifest
For a weekend with near perfect weather and chock full of other outdoor activities and events, the annual South Street Spring Fest and German Maifest proved a smashing success.
Nearly 40,000 men, women, children and families turned out for a stroll along Philly’s fabled hippest street, as food, music, vendors, artists and performers spilled out on to the blocks between Front and Eighth Streets for the daylong fest.
Out in front of Brauhaus Schmitz, drindled and lederhosened men and women danced around a traditional May Pole, while inside in the restaurant and bar’s Brauer Bund Room, VIPs noshed on a glorious spread of German specialties prepared by Chef Jeremy Nolen and his kitchen staff, and washed it all down with a sampling of special release brews.
Hot Diggity, Lovash, Redwood and the Twisted Tail were among the South Street businesses that pitched in to help feed the crowds that showed up.
One of the day’s biggest highlights was the flash mob-style wedding proposal that went down amid the festivities. Check out the video here.
