Where to Celebrate Labor Day 2017 in Philadelphia

RIP Summer 2017
by Jessie Donofrio on Aug 30, 2017 in Roundups

Another summer flew by — lots of drinks were enjoyed and memories made, but the fun isn’t over yet! There’s one more weekend, and a special one at that, until pumpkin beers and crisp ciders are back on tap. It’s Labor Day Weekend here in Philadelphia, meaning it’s time to enjoy that grapefruit shandy and soak up the sun until Eagles season comes around again.

Thursday, August 31
Get your summer cocktail fix on Sansom Street at this end of summer bash. The bar will be serving $5 Aperol spritz as well as $5 Martini & Rossi prosecco splits right on the corner of 17th and Sansom Streets. There will also be a DJ spinning tunes and some swag. The party goes from 5 PM-7:30 PM. (121 S 17th St.)

Through Monday, September 4
Parks on Tap
Catch this traveling beer garden this weekend at Clivden Park in Mount Airy and Clark Park in West Philly. They’ll have great craft beer and food options, including a frozen beer cocktail and tons of sandwiches. Stop by throughout the weekend for a lineup of special events. (Clivden Park: 6415 Musgrave St. & Clark Park: 4398 Chester Ave.)

Through September 4
Blue Cross RiverRink SummerFest
Lace up your roller skates, because it’s the last weekend of the RiverRink Summerfest! As well as skating, you can check out the new carnival rides, imbibe at the Chickie’s & Pete’s Waterfront Crabshack, play some mini golf, and hang out at the lodge. (101 S Columbus Blvd.)

Friday, September 1
First Friday at Milkboy
4 years ago this Friday, DJ Jersey Dan (aka Dan Bisogno) started spinning on First Fridays at Milkboy, and to commemorate this anniversary, he'll be donating his performance fee plus fifty cents from each Allagash Brewing Company beer to help relief efforts in Houston. (1100 Chestnut St.)

Friday, September 1 through Sunday, September 3
The Independence Seaport Museum is opening their pop-up beer garden this weekend in honor of Labor Day. Here you can bask in some great views of the river, have a few drinks, eat some food from Toll Man Joe’s play cornhole and other games, listen to live music and watch the fireworks on Sunday. Hours are Friday 5 PM-11 PM, Saturday 3 PM-12 AM, and Sunday 5 PM-12 AM with fireworks happening around 9:30 PM. (211 S Columbus Blvd.)

Saturday, September 2 through Sunday, September 3
Made in America Festival
Back for its 6th year, Jay Z’s music festival will be taking over the Benjamin Franklin Parkway this weekend. Headliners include the organizer himself JAY Z, J. Cole and The Chainsmokers with other featured artists such as Solange, Migos, and many more. Two day passes are still on sale. (Benjamin Franklin Parkway)

Saturday, September 2 through Monday, September 4
145th Labor Day Volksfest
Visit Northeast Philly this weekend for the longest running German volksfest in the US. The Cannstatter will be hosting this huge party equipped with three full days of German beer and wine, traditional German food, crafts, amusement rides, music and more! Tickets are $6 for one day, $9 for two days, and $11 for all three, also note this is a cash only event. (9130 Academy Road)

All Weekend
Rooftop Bars
What’s better than spending your Labor Day Weekend cocktail in hand with incredible views of the city? Head to one of Philly’s awesome rooftop bars such as Bok Bar or Stratus Lounge for just that. Didn’t get tickets to Made in America? Swing by Assembly Rooftop Lounge or SkyGarten for incredible views of the parkway - you may even hear a tune or two from up there.
