Where to Find Denver's Best Tacos

With Denver’s rich Mexican heritage, tacos are a staple of the city’s diet. They also make cheap and easy happy hour eats. However, Denver’s bars and restaurants like to add special touches to these tacos to keep things interesting. Here are some of Denver’s tastiest and most unique tacos.

Machete Tequila & Tacos: This restaurant specializes in Mexican street food so guests can expect a huge selection of tacos to choose from. Not only that, the restaurant makes its corn tortillas in house by hand. Fillings are divided by Land (beef and pork), Chicken and Sea (halibut, shrimp, scallops, tilapia and SHARK). During happy hour (11AM to 6 PM) select tacos are only $2.75 each. (1730 Wynkoop St.; 720-612-7698)

La LomaThis classic Denver Mexican restaurant serves up all kinds of tacos, some traditional and some a bit more refined. Try the Tacos Dorados featuring three crispy shells with a choice of roasted chicken, ground sirloin or beef barbacoa topped with aged cheeses, lettuce, tomato and served with rice and beans. (2527 W. 26th Ave.; 303-433-8300)

Los Chingones: The name of this new place in River North roughly translates to “The Bad Asses.”  The restaurant also has some pretty bad ass tacos. 12 different kinds on the menu! Get adventurous and try the Lamb Neck with hummus and tzatziki or the Beef Tongue with onion and cilantro. All tacos are $3.50 each except for one, the Wild Card. The Wild Card is the Taco of the Day depending on what the kitchen has available and it will always be something special. (2463 Larimer St.; 303-295-0686)

Lola Mexican Fish House: Lola’s has a variety of tacos on the happy hour menu, starting with Braised Chicken for $2 each and Diablo Shrimp for $4 each. For those want more of a meal, The Deal is two chicken tacos and a Tecate for only $5 or get The Platter, two chicken tacos with black beans and rice for only $6. (1575 Boulder St.; 720-570-8686)

Stoney’s Bar & Grill: Stoney’s offers tasty Chorizo tacos made with sautéed Polidori chorizo topped with mango salsa and queso fresco and served on corn tortillas. Not only are they delicious, but during happy hour, get a plate of three for only $4. (1111 Lincoln St.; 303-830-6839)

Tamayo: Happy hour features tacos served on corn tortillas for $3 each. Guests have the choice of Taco de Carne with grilled steak, Al Pastor with adobo pork, and Chicken Tinga. These tacos are also on the dinner menu, where you get three of them. Also on the dinner menu are Smoked Brisket and Mahi Mahi tacos. (1400 Larimer St.; 720-946-1433)

Zengo’s: Zengo’s over in Riverfront Park features West meets East cuisine, so while tacos are on the menu, there is a slight twist. For happy hour try the Waygu Beef Chorizo Tacos with black beans and won bok slaw and taste two different cultures in one dish. (1610 Little Raven St.; 720-904-0965)
