P.O.P.E. Expands With the 'Conclave'

by Drink Philly on Nov 20, 2013 in Bars & Restaurants for Pub on Passyunk East, WineO

East Passyunk hotspot Pub on Passyunk East — better known as the P.O.P.E. — now has a little more wiggle room to offer its patrons thanks to a recently completed expansion project that’s aptly named the Conclave.

While P.O.P.E. owner Dennis Hewlett remains ever tight-lipped about his intentions for the old W & J Bar in NoLibs (or WineO, if you must), he was more than happy to discuss the details of the Conclave with Drink Philly when we caught up with him.

Dimly-lit and adorned with work from local artists, Hewlett told us the new space adds roughly 20 additional seats. It sits just southwest of the oblong-shaped papal pub’s bar and entrance along its East Passyunk Ave. flank. And with more seating, it also brings two unisex bathrooms, and extra room for dining at its handful of tables. A glass pocket door can separate the room from the rest of the bar for private parties, business meetings, and intimate or exclusive engagements. In warmer months, accordion-style oak windows will open up compleltely to the bustle out on the Avenue.

Check it out for yourself on Wednesday, November 20, when the P.O.P.E. hosts a Founders Brewing Co. tap takeover.
