Bill Murray Skipped the Emmys to Get Drunk in Philly (Well, and for His Son's Wedding)

Nobody was surprised when Bill Murray was conspicuously absent at the Emmys last night (where he picked up an award for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries for Olive Kitteridge, incidentally), but Philly natives were surprised to learn that he skipped the awards show to hang out at Oscar’s. Bill Murray spent this weekend getting drunk at some illustrious Philly dives and attending his son’s wedding at The Bellevue, according to Philadelphia’s only paparazzo Hugh E. Dillon. Dillon was flooded with reports late Friday night that Murray was drinking the night away at Oscar’s, and there he was, taking selfies with adoring fans before leaving around 1 AM.

Even though he spent Friday at a dive, the rest of his weekend was considerably classier - Murray’s son Luke married Kara Cassidy (daughter of Comcast executive Fran Cassidy) at The Bellevue yesterday, preceded by a Saturday evening rehearsal dinner at The Acorn Club, and Murray was, of course, present at both. In addition to being probably the best wedding guest of all time (if his previous antics are any indication), Murray rented out the entire 27th floor of the Bellevue for the bridal party and guests and purchased all of the groomsmen’s tuxes, because Bill Murray is the greatest.

Murray is, by all reports, a crazy fun bar patron and all-around weirdo, so here’s hoping Drink Philly can catch him the next time he passes through the city and ask him for some details on that Ghostbusters cameo.
