A World of Pure Inebriation Awaits You at this Willy Wonka-Themed Bar in NYC

by Alexander Frane on Jan 30, 2018 in Bars & Restaurants

Themed pop-up bars are become a habitual things these days, it seems, as The Simpsons, Game of Thrones, and Twin Peaks have all had manifestations as bars. Now, it’s an oddly fitting children’s book (and movies), as Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory gets its own pop-up at the LOCL in the Nylo Hotel of the Upper West Side, The Manual Reports.

You won’t need a golden ticket to enter this bar, just a sweet-tooth and interest in themed cocktails. The pop-up, designed by the bar consulting company Muddling Memories, features drinks like the The Snozzberries Taste Like Snozzberries, That’s the Ticket!, and Violette You’re Turning Violette, each as stylized and colorful as the original (and inarguably superior) 1971 film. The most remarkable drink, however, is the Goodie Goodie Gumballs, with tequila, St. Germain, lemon, white cranberry, and real gumballs, all served in a gumball machine.

In the spirit of Roald Dahl, $1 from each drink will go to Save the Children.  The pop-up launched in December, and only goes until January 31, so get in while you can. And if you do visit, just remember to be a Charlie Bucket, not an Augustus Gloop or Veruca Salt.
