Birra Launches Happy Hours: Craft Beer & Pizza on East Passyunk

Barclay Prime in Rittenhouse) to the suds-oriented (he helped launch West Philly’s City Tap House, home to Philly’s largest draft list). His newest venture, a craft-focused pizza stop on East Passyunk, opened in November with chef Andrew Fox at the helm, turning out fun artisinal pizzas and other oven-baked goodness to accompany an ambitious beverage program.

Dinerman knows Philadelphians love their happy hours, and so beginning today, December 27, Birra is launching two different promotions, taking place each weekday (Tuesdays–Fridays). From 4–6 PM, stop in to enjoy “Mangia,” with half-priced pizzas; think decadent mac ‘n’ cheese pie for $6.50, the pesto-laced “gaahlic” pie for $4.50 or a cheese option for just $3.

Because of stringent Pennsylvania laws, a food establishment cannot offer two different alcohol specials in a 24-hour period, Birra’s rep tells us, so all the drink specials are saved for the late-night happy hour, dubbed “Salute.” From 11 PM–1 AM, Tuesday–Friday (the shop is closed on Mondays), head down the Ave to enjoy $4 craft drafts, $5 wines and $6 specialty drinks. On tap, look forward to a mix of Italian and local favorites, and in cocktail land, try freshly-shaken concoctions like the Ruby Negroni (with a touch or ruby port) or the Motoguzzi (brandy, amaretto, lemon).

Birra’s atmosphere is decidedly casual, but the food and drinks are well-cared for, and the flavors speak for themselves. Now we have two more reasons to hit up South Philly each night.
