6/4: Sip and Strut at the Longwood Gardens Wine & Jazz Festival

Gardens are pretty. Gardens filled with kool kats drumming on the bass are groovy. And gardens filled with beats and 18 area vineyards topping off glasses of sauvignon blanc are worth clearing some room on your schedule.

Today at noon, Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square is kicking off the season with their annual Wine & Jazz Festival

Starting at 12pm, you can stroll the grounds while sampling the goods of wineries like Chaddsford Winery, Long Trout Winery and Franklin Hill Vineyards. If you are new to the "sipping-wine-like-a-pro scene," stop by the wine tasting seminars at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., hosted by the self-proclaimed Wine Guy, Bob Trimble.

Foodies can spend their time oohing and ahhing over the culinary demos by the staff of Wayne PA's Georges' at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Or you can grab someone and one of the adorable picnic baskets packed with cheeses, bread, fruit and more, then find a shaded corner for some privacy.

Then there is, of course, the jazz. Three acts will take the stage, from a vibraphone player to a classic trio to the Grammy Award-winning New York Voices and smooth soul of the Ravi Coltrane Quartet.

The festival runs from noon to 5:30. Drink and jive responsibility.
