Top Ten Deals: Philly Beer Week 2010
Some may be wondering what the best events to go to will be for the remainder of beer week. After going through them all I have narrowed it down to the 10 best deals or best events to attend for the next week. They are in no particular order, but all are guaranteed to be a good time and get you lots of beer.
#1) The 20th Annual Jackson Tutored Tastings is an event that should not be missed. You can sign up on the Philly Beer Week website to go through a three hour session in which you are guided through a beer tasting of 50 beers. The tickets to this event cost $50 but it is well worth it. The event is considered one of the weeks anchor events and is Saturday, June 12th with the first session starting at Noon, second session at 4pm and third session starting at 8pm. This event is located at HeadHouse Restaurant on Lombard st. in Philadelphia.
#2) Introduction to home brewing at Keystone Homebrew Supply Inc. on Bethlehem Pike in Montgomeryville is another great event happening on Wednesday June 9th. This is for those who are interested in starting to brew their own beer at home. This event also requires tickets but is just $40 and they can be purchased online. The event includes instruction from an award winning brewer on how to brew at home so you can make beer for yourself for years to come.
#3) A Wee pub Crawl presented by Fergie’s Pub in Philadelphia is a bar crawl shared with the owner of the bar as well as other beer dignitaries. It is happening Thursday June 10th from 7pm to midnight. It is pay as you go so this experience can be as cheap or expensive as you want.
#4) Happening every day for the rest of Beer Week is a unique experience to be a part of the Memphis Taproom’s “No Repeat Beer Week.” They are tapping kegs all week but none are the same. That’s right every keg is a different beer. This event is pay as you go but is guaranteed to be a good time as it goes all day every day until the end of beer week.
#5) Friday from 6pm- 10pm is a competition of sorts at Rembrandts on N. 23rd in Philadelphia. It is a beer night with Yards beer going up against Harpoon. It is labeled as a Phillies vs. Red Sox beer battle and all Yards and Harpoon beers will be on tap. This event is also pay as you go.
#6) America’s Next Homebrewer is an event at Draught Horse Pub on Cecil B. Moore in Philadelphia. This is presented by Yuengling and includes a meet and greet of the next generation of homebrewers as well as an appearance by Lord Chesterfield and the Yuengling Brew Master. The event starts at 8pm Friday and is pay as you go.
#7) Victory Brewing Company Day is happening on Friday at Local 44 on Spruce St. The event is happening all day and all the taps are the beers from Victory Brewing Company. The event is one guaranteed to be a good time and is pay as you go.
#8) At Teresa’s Café and Next Door Bar in Wayne Troegs is having an indoor beer garden during the Main Line Food and Jazz Fest on Saturday. There is going to be plenty of beer for this day drinking event and will be a great pre game before heading to a night event.
#9) One of the better ticket deals during all of Philly Beer Week is the 19th Annual Microfestival at Stoudt’s Brewing Co. in Adamstown, Pa. It is a four hour event starting at 12pm on Saturday and for just $35 you can drink a variety of micro brews from Stoudt’s. If this doesn’t lead to a night of debauchery and good times I do not know what will.
#10) The last featured event of the week is the Zythos Beer Fest. This event is occurring on Sunday from 12 to 3pm and 4pm to 7pm. It is happening at the Penn Museum and is guaranteed to be a delicious Belgian Experience. It is guaranteed that over a dozen Belgian Brewers will be in attendance.
If one of these events doesn’t catch your interest then you may want to re-evaluate your beer drinking. These are just a few of the great events that are occurring, but they are the ones that involve the best atmosphere and best deals.
Cheers!
