Philly Beer Week Opening Tap 2013, May 31
Picture this: you're standing on Independence Mall, where the our country's independence was defined. The Liberty Bell sits to one side, and Constitution Hall swells with history in the background. Mayor Michael Nutter lifts the Hammer of Glory, says something about beer being representative of our great freedoms, and taps the first keg of Philly Beer Week. It’s a great scene that'll make you nearly burst with pride for our city and the great beer culture we now have.
That outdoor ceremony, which starts at 6:30 PM, is free, but the beerfest that takes place immediately following is the best way to extend that happy feeling. Don’t delay on getting your $45 ticket if you want access to beer from more than 30 regional breweries from 7:30–9 PM, plus a souvenir tasting glass. Beer-friendly food will be available for purchase at the event, which takes place over two floors of the Independence Visitors Center. $90 VIP tickets get you into a special section with a buffet and unique, one-off brews. Find both tickets here, and see you there.
