As the old poem dictates, “remember, remember the fifth of November.” For this was the day in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and like-minded rabble-rousers attempted to bring down Great Britain’s House of Lords with a colossal cache of gunpowder.

But rather than blowing things up, or setting roaring bonfires alight to commemorate Guy Fawkes Night, try bellying-up to the bar at Old City's Victoria Freehouse and sample some specially priced flights of whiskey instead.

Beginning at 4 p.m., the local haven for the Anglophile set will be offering flights that include Laphroig 10, Macallan 10, and Glenmorganie 10 for just $15. There sweetening the deal with the promise of Devils on Horseback too.

If that doesn’t fit your schedule, the Freehouse has two more whiskey events lined up for its “Unofficial Whiskey Week” celebrations on Thursday, November 7.

At 4 p.m., the pub will host a special Macallan happy hour with flights of the distinguished Scotch — including Macallan 10, Macallan 12, Macallan 15 — for only $20. Bar snacks will also be offered.

Later that evening at 7 p.m. there’s a Macallan Scotch pairing dinner, featuring five courses, each served with a corresponding pour of Scotch. The dinner costs $50 per person, including Scotch. Reservations, which are strongly encouraged, can be made by calling the restaurant.
