7 Holiday Cocktails to Get You Merry This Season

7 Holiday Cocktails to Get You Merry This Season

We love tradition in Philadelphia and prove it every day, most especially during the holidays. Today we enjoy our local customs just as we did when we were children, and now we experience the joy of sharing them with our own, along with our community.

Christmastime in Philly means watching the Macy’s Christmas Light Show as the Wanamaker organ pipes along, catching The Nutcracker at The Academy of Music, shopping the Christmas Village at Love Park, strolling under glowing snowball ornaments in Rittenhouse Square, making plans to meet on Two Street to catch New Year’s Day mumming, and booing Santa.

Keep-up the spirit as you celebrate the season Philly style, and steep yourself in these holiday cocktails to help you maintain your merriment through the next few weeks:

Baby Yeezus $5
Milkboy
Okay. Technically this is not a cocktail. It’s a shot of Jameson, Kahlua and Bailey's. You know you want to hear yourself order one. Available the entire week of Christmas. (1100 Chestnut St.; 215-925-6455)

Blood Orange Gin Fizz $10.50
Paradiso Restaurant and Wine Bar
Death's Door Gin, egg whites, fresh squeezed blood orange and muddled sage - mixed just as Krampus likes it. (1627 E. Passyunk Ave.; 215-271-2066)

McNally’s Eggnog $7
London Grill
Delicious housemade non-alcoholic eggnog waiting for your favorite spirit addedition. Try it with candy-cane infused vodka. (2301 Fairmount Ave.; 215-978-4545)

Santa’s Tipple $9
The Twisted Tail
A suitable cocktail as reward for a long night of delivering gifts: Maker’s 45, Pedro Ximénez sherry, and double-dash of black walnut bitters in an Absinthe rinsed glass. (509-511 S. 2nd St.; 215-558-2471)

10 Cane Hot Buttered Rum $12
Red Owl Tavern
We posted a seven hot drinks round-up a few weeks ago, but there is always room for a steamy blend of 10 Cane Rum, Demerara sugar, water, butter, nutmeg and cinnamon stick. (433 Chestnut St.; 215-923-2267)

The Pear Tree $8
The Victoria Freehouse
This refreshing holiday cocktail of Gin, fresh pear juice, rosemary clove and simple syrup will get you leaping. (10 S. Front St.; 215-543-6089)

You Know How to Wassail, Dontcha? $TBA
Bar Emmanuelle
An icy twist on a hot classic, raise a clove-studded orange peel garnished glass of Rittenhouse bonded rye, Laird’s bonded apple brandy, ginger syrup and Angostura and orange bitters. (1052 N. Hancock St.; 267-639-2470)
