Philly Beer Week Names New Executive Director
Looks like the Philadelphia Beer Week’s board of directors have found a replacement for outgoing executive director Don Russell.
News that Russell, aka Joe Sixpack, who co-founded and stood at the helm of the annual 10-day beer blowout since it was founded back in 2008, was stepping down sent shockwaves through the city’s beer drinking communities when it broke last December. PBW recently named Kristine Kennedy as his replacement for the 2014 fest. It kicks off with Opening Tap ceremonies on May 30.
Philly.com reports that PBW’s board selected Kennedy for the role based on her outstanding work with Penn Treaty Park, where she ran its erstwhile Shad Fest for several years and held a seat on the park’s board. Old heads and indie rock nerds will surely recognize her as the bass player in long-running acts Lefty’s Deceiver and Audible.
Kennedy and the rest of the PBW board will be on hand at SugarHouse Casino on Tuesday, January 21 from 2 to 4 PM for the fest’s annual participant meeting, where bar and restaurant owners can learn how they can take part in Philly Beer Week 2014.
