Hawaiian Shirt Alert: Grey Lodge Celebrates Groundhog Day, Sun., Feb. 2
Perhaps one of the stranger events we have ever heard of is Grey Lodge Pub opening at 7 AM on February 2nd in time to watch Phil poke his head out at 7:20 AM. This year however, Ground Hog's Day falls on a Sunday, and according to PA law, an establishment can't sell alcohol until 9 AM. So you'll get to get a little more rest before venturing out this year. The owner Mike Scoats breaks out one of the most ridiculous tap lists for those brave enough to travel out so early. Prizes will be awarded for best and worst hawaiian shirts and the winner of a hula hooping competition. Of course there will be great beer to go around!
Featured Beers for 2014 Groundhog Day:
Flying Fish Exit 1 Oyster Stout
Free Will Lowercase ipa World Debut!

Troegs Dream Weaver Wheat
cask-conditioned Weyerbacher Old Heathen with chicory and oak chips (firkin)
cask-conditioned Weyerbacher 2012 Yankee

Event Lineup according to Grey Lodge's website:
9 AM: Grey Lodge/Troegs Groundhog Prognostication Reenactment
Since we can't show Punxy Phil live this year and since we don't have any way to record it and show it on all of the TVs, we will try to pull off a live reenactment of that morning's prognostication. Nick Johnson from Troegs will help us pull this off.
Featured Beers: Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat and Troegs Perpetual IPA (gravity-pour firkin). Troegs has always been a big part of Groundhog Day with us. Dreamweaver goes great with eggs and is a nice sessionable alternative to some of the monsters we have on tap. And we haven't forgotten our hopheads, we'll have a firkin of Troegs Perpetual IPA.
10 AM: Weyerbacher Hawaiian Shirt Contest
The Hawaiian Shirt contest is an annual Groundhog Day tradition. Wear your best (worst) Hawaiian shirt. Prizes for the best (worst) ones. Best/worst - same differnce.
Featured Beer: Weyerbacher 2012 Yankee and Old Heathen with chicory and oak chips. Yankee was part of Weyerbacher's NATO series of beers. They said it could be cellared, so we did just that.
11 AM: Sly Fox Hula Hoop Contest
Continuing with the Hawaiian theme, it's a hula hoop contest. Prizes for the best and most enthusiastic hoopers. This is always a fun one.
Featured Beer: Sly Fox TBA. It will be a rare one.
12 Noon: Yards Dance Off
Shake your money maker for prizes.
Featured Beers: 2012 Trubbel de Yards. This dubbel/triple Belgian combo is always a special treat whenever Yards is able to brew some. This is a beer that should get even more interesting with a little age on it. Which is why we saved a barrel from when it was last around.
1 PM: Lucky Cat Day Seasonal Beer Prognostication
Like Punxsutawney Phil, the Grey Lodge's Wissinoming Winnie is a prognosticator. Unlike Phil who prognosticates weather, Winnie prognosticates beer.
Every February 2nd, with the help of her Inner Circle, Winnie determines if there will be 6 more weeks of winter beers or if the spring seasonals will arrive early. Winnie's Inner Circle is comprised of her hand picked (paw picked?) menagerie of local beer folks.
After the Prognosticaion, it's time to go home for a well deserved nap. Or stay a spell, we'll be here til 2am.
