Pinelands Brewing Company Celebrates Its Grand Opening Sat., March 1

by Drink Philly on Feb 28, 2014 in Event Listing

If you’re looking to get out of dodge on Saturday, Pinelands Brewing Company’s grand opening seems as good as any other reason to road trip it to South Jersey’s Pine Barrens.

Founder and Brewmaster Jason Chapman set up shop on the periphery of Pinelands National Reserve in Little Egg Harbor. That vast rural and evergreen-covered expanse serves as inspiration for several of his new venture's beers.

Those beers are brewed with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and water from the nearby Kirkwood-Cohansey Aquifer on a one-of-a-kind three-barrel system that Chapman built himself. For the time being, they are only available at the brewery in pints, 22 oz. bombers and growlers. They fill kegs on site too. Keep an eye out for Pinelands' drafts on lists in the weeks ahead. On tap for Saturday’s grand opening festivities are:

Masons Wheat - An American Witbier generously spiced with lemon peel and coriander for an authentic fresh wheat ale. Single hopped with whole leaf for the freshest flavor possible.

Evan John Porter - Robust Porter at heart and infused with a delicate vanilla flavor using whole vanilla bean pods. This creates a pleasant balance to the dark maltiness of the Porter

Evergreen IPA - A true-to-style American India Pale Ale (IPA) loaded with whole leaf hops in the kettle and to heighten the hop enjoyment, it’s dry hopped during conditioning. The Pines are home to about 20 native tree species, many of them evergreens

Pitch Pine Ale - Classic, clean and balanced American Pale Ale (APA) featuring a malty backbone and fresh leaf hop flavor. The pitch pine is also the most prominent tree in the Pines.

Great Bay IRA - Malty Red Ale with the hop bite of an India Pale Ale. Red Ales have the feel of the rust colored streams in the Pines. Some of those streams feed right into Great Bay, where the Mullica River meets the Atlantic Ocean just North of Atlantic City

Cannonball Stout - Loaded with five malts and roasted grain this deep black American Stout exhibits the flavors of the dark grains. A tribute to the iron ore industry of the Pines where cannonballs were made for the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812
