No Kidding: New Logan Square Bar Totally Has a Thing for Goats
Kris Hagan and crew worked ‘round the clock this past weekend to get the new bar Logan ready to open for Sunday’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.
The new venture, which kind of has this recurring goat theme running throughout, replaces The Piano Bar near 19th and Arch Streets in the heart of the Logan Square neighborhood. Hence the name. Hagan is the general manager, and Sutton’s Parlor’s Pete Antipas is the owner. Grainery Restaurant Group is also on board.
Decidedly a neighborhood joint, Logan puts a big emphasis on beer. The bar has 11 draft lines, one nitro and has taps dedicated to popular local brewers like Yards, Victory and Flying Fish. In keeping with the goat theme, expect to see various bock beers rotate in and out throughout the year. Hagan has put together a bottles and cans list that offers 20 more suds selections. He expects to have as many as 50 in coming weeks. In addition to beers the bar has a fun mix of cocktails too. Several of them, like the Raspberry Rhubarb Ice Tea and Sage-ito showcase spirits from Art in the Age. The wine list features Bully Hill, of course.
Chef Craig Moucha runs the kitchen, which turns out a menu of American comforts and barroom classics that are highlighted by game meats — and yes, more goat. Some highlights include duck confit, duck pierogies, and an extensive burger lineup that includes more than 10 different options. Plus every night will feature a $19.99 all-you-can-eat snow crab special and $8 featured pitchers. Entrees include flat-iron steaks and steelhead trout with speck.
The space was completely revamped and features a rustic and welcoming atmosphere that was created with reclaimed wood, found objects and other salvaged materials. The goat motif repeats overhead at the 12-seat bar and throughout the 35-seat dining room in paintings, sculpture and statues.
Should drinking and eating grow tiresome, Logan has a cool, old-school style shuffleboard table that’s totally ready for action.
