Continental Restaurant & Martini Bar Rolls Out a New Cocktail List
Old original Continental Restaurant & Martini Bar recently rolled out a brand new cocktail list. It’s one of just a very small number of major updates the Old City mainstay has given its drink program since first opening the doors way back in 1995.
All told, the new list has 21 cocktails, only three of which are carry-overs. One is a daily rotating cocktail special inspired by the season, weather or just the bar staff’s whimsey. And if there’s a classic Continental cocktail that you are hankering for that’s not on the list, simply ask politely and they will mix and pour it for you.
Continental’s bartenders worked in collaboration to develop the new lineup of libations. In bringing the list up to date, they also overhauled the entire bar setup, including squeezed-to-order juices, housemade mixers, glassware and ice — pellet, cold draft, crushed and tall, rectangular Collins blocks.
Gone are the once ubiquitous cocktail shakers that drinks used to be served in. The more contemporary approach to mixing, shaking and pouring potent potables incorporates everything from fresh roseamry imbeded in the ice for the 18th & Locust, a cocktail inspired by Starr Restaurant's Parc on Rittenhouse Square; rosewater and Laphroaig mists as the finishing touches on the 18th & Sansom, which was influenced by Starr's Dandelion; to a housemade chai tea cola used in place of Coke or Pepsi in the Old City Iced Tea.
