Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market Launches Burger Month Happy Hour
If you haven’t made it across the bridge yet to Cherry Hill, N.J. to check out The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market, this is the month to get there. The family-friendly tavern co-owned by Chef Josh Lawler of Pine Street’s Farm & Fisherman BYOB and Chef Todd Fuller is celebrating National Hamburger Month with an affordable Burger Happy Hour.
Throughout the month of May, Monday through Friday from 4-7 PM, tavern-goers can enjoy a $5 custom-ground, short rib and chuck blend burger — sourced humanely in keeping with the restaurant’s focus on sustainable foods — grilled to order and served on a brioche bun. During Happy Hour, the tavern is also taking $2 off all draught beers, handcrafted cocktails and wines by the glass.
The real star of the tavern’s Burger Happy Hour, though, is the fun, free fixin’s bar with seasonal, house-made condiments.
There are standards at the fixin’s bar like lettuce and tomatoes, plus onions done three ways — raw, roasted or caramelized. The fun comes when customers start to pile grilled ramps, house-cured pickles, dill pickles, wild mushrooms, malt mayo, blue cheese sauce, chili-garlic sauce, relish, chipotle spread, assorted peppers and house made potato chips on top of their burger.
Fuller says the condiments will mostly remain the same throughout the month, but as the season progresses and availability of produce changes, some of the vegetables offered may change.
“We want people to be interactive,” says Fuller, “and have as much fun with condiments as we are. We want them to feel like they’re at a picnic – the best picnic.”
The bar area has been very busy the first few weeknights of May, and there is a possibility for future themed happy hours. Fuller says they would probably include some sort of sandwich that goes along with the season — possibly a foot-long hot dog in the summer. Tacos and roasted pork are some other potential options. Right now these are all still ideas being tossed around, but if they come to life, each sandwich would include its own fixin’s bar.
The taps at Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market pour regional brews from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Right now from PA the bartenders are pouring Victory’s hells-style Lager and Troeg’s seasonal Sunshine Pils. Delaware’s Twin Lakes Brewing Co.’s hoppy, citrusy Greenville Pale Ale and New Jersey’s Carton Brewing’s smoky Swisher also take up two of the bar’s 10 taps. The beers often change regularly, but the selection is always regionally heavy with a variety of styles. Bartenders can also suggest wine or cocktails to pair with the burgers — all at $2 off regular prices during happy hour.
In addition to the $5 burgers, the regular happy hour specials of half price wings ($5.50) and calamari ($5) are also available. Happy Hour specials and prices are good only in the tavern area, which includes the high tops and banquettes that surround the bar where families with children are welcome to come and enjoy the specials.
