Craft Distilling Startup Rowhouse Spirits Begins Selling Its Booze in Kensington
Remember a few weeks ago we told you the artisan booze business was booming in these parts? Well, it looks like another one of the craft spirit startups mentioned is now ready to conduct business.
Rowhouse Spirits, the Kensington-based distilling concern that one-time Philadelphia Brewing Company brewer Dean Browne launched — in a building directly across the street from the his former employer’s brewery — is now selling its first lot of liquor. Folks of legal drinking age can now stop in and visit Browne’s boozy lair and purchase a bottle of his Poitin, an Irish-style moonshine.
PLCB rules allow producers like Browne to sell their wares directly to consumers and licensed businesses. You can stop in Thursdays through Saturdays from 12 PM to 7 PM to purchase Poitin and get a look at the facilities. Or as Browne posted on Facebook, “If you're in the neighborhood outside of those hours - just yell through the back gate! Unless I'm running the still, I'll be happy to serve you.”
Rowhouse Distilling expects to have its gin bottled and on shelves sometime next week. Ahead of that, there’s a Jägermeister-like herbal liqueur called Bear Trap that’s in the works.
