What to Drink at CookNSolo's Abe Fisher, Opening Sept. 2 in Center City
Just on the heels of opening Dizengoff, Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov, the prolific restaurateurs behind smash hits Zahav, Percy Street Barbecue and Federal Donuts, are bringing yet another concept, Abe Fisher, to life on Sansom Street in Center City. This latest venture opens at 5 PM on Tuesday, September 2, directly next door to CookNSolo’s still brand new hummusiya.
Just as critically acclaimed Zahav embraces a contemporary approach to the culinary traditions of Israel, Abe Fisher takes a more worldly view, presenting cuisines from around the globe influenced by Jewish diaspora. That means you can expect everything from Ukrainian borscht and Montreal-style smoked beef short ribs to Chinese food on Christmas.
Boxwood Architects designed the 1,500 square foot space, which seats 50 in the dining room and another 10 at a full-service bar. Two kitchen counter seats with a view of the action on the line will be available nightly for walk-in guests.
At the bar, beverage director Brian Kane has put together a selection of original cocktails that include the namesake Abe Fisher Cocktail, which keeps kosher with a splash of dill pickle juice added to Beefeater 24 and Dolin dry vermouth; The Cherry Orchard, vodka, maraschino liqueur, sour cherry, lime, bitters; and Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition, Barbancourt 8-year rum, Pedro Ximenez sherry, Gran Marnier, beet juice.
A temperature controlled, pressurized wine dispensing system makes 17 different varietals that range from Gotham Project Pinot Noir (Lodi, 2012) to Lionel Osmin Columbard (Fronton, 2013) available by the glass.
Bottled beers include Brasserie Dupont Moinette; Victory Hop Devil India Pale Ale; and Deschutes Obsidian Stout. Click here to check out the drink menu in its entirety.
James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Solomonov and co-chef Yehuda Sichel spent more than a year developing the menu, which features mostly small plates broken down into vegetable, fish and meat -based dishes. Guests can choose one item from each category, plus a dessert, to create their own $39 Prix Fixe.
In addition to smaller plates, Abe Fisher offers larger format options designed to be shared by two or more. Those dishes include Hungarian Duck, a tasting of dry-aged duck served in three courses ($120 for two guests, including dessert.); and a Montreal Short Rib, a whole beef short rib plate with housemade rye bread and garnishes ($160 for four guests.) Check out the full menu here.
Abe Fisher will be open seven days a week from 5 PM - 11 PM.
