Drink This: Bottled Cocktails at Stratus Rooftop Lounge
For the rollout of its latest list of seasonal libations, Stratus Rooftop Lounge high atop Old City’s Hotel Monaco is tapping into one of the hottest trends to sweep the drinking world of late: Pre-mixed and bottled cocktails.
The cleverly crafted concoctions are the work of Chauncey Jane Scates, who was recently named Kimpton City Lead Bartender, and she’s mixing and batching the potent pre-fab potables daily. Acid phosphate, a tongue tingling acidic additive, enhances the sour characteristics in the cocktails — traditionally it was used at soda fountains pre-1950 — as well as fortified wine and/or high alcohol spirits helps keep the bottled beverages’ ingredients fresh and tasty. Each one is bottled and carbonated just before getting sealed air tight.
There’s roughly two pops per bottle, which means they are perfect for sharing, or sipping solo for an entire evening out.
Bottled options on the new list include The Master, Absolut Craft Herbal Lemon, Dios Baco Fino Sherry, lime, housemade ginger syrup, Bitter End Moroccan Bitters, and tonic; Diamonds in the Back, Banks 5 Island Rum, Dolin Blanc, Marie Brizard Apry, pineapple, lemon, Jerry Thomas Bitters, and club soda; and For Your Pleasure, Bombay Sapphire Gin, St. Germain, housemade cucumber-melon syrup, lemon, rose water, and Prosecco.
