Grey Lodge Pub Taps the Season's First Keg of Mad Elf, Fri., Nov. 14
Bottles of Troegs Brewing Company’s culty yuletide sipper Mad Elf have been popping up at bars, beer distributors and bottle shops for a number of weeks now. But kegs of the highly coveted honey- and cherry-laden Belgian Strong Ale have yet to materialize. Until now, that is.
Mike "Scoats" Scotese, the grand poobah at Northeast Philly’s Grey Lodge Pub, sends word that once again his bar received the first barrels of Mad Elf shipped from the brewery this year. He and his crew will tap them on Friday, November 14 as part of their annual Mad Elf/Happy You Night celebration.
This annual rite, which serves as a kick-off for the holiday drinking season, always draws a huge crowd, and the kegs always kick early. This year Scoats has secured three kegs of 2014’s Mad Elf. The evening’s tap list will also include a keg of 2013’s vintage for side-by-side comparison, as well as a sixtel of the seldom seen Naked Elf, Mad Elf sans the cherries and chocolate malt. Additionally, Troegs new winter seasonal, Blizzard of Hops IPA, will make its debut.
Of course Jolly ol' St. Nick Johnson will be on hand too, hawking brand new tie-dye Mad Elf t-shirts, Mad Elf hats and more.
