Six-Pack Beer Delivery Now Legal in Pennsylvania
Winter is officially here, which means cold weather, snow and a lot of time spent debating whether or not it’s worth it to make the trek to the liquor store or bottle shop in the sub-zero temps. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has made a decision just in time for the long chill that allows establishments that serve alcohol to deliver beer. This means that restaurants, pizza shops, grocery stores, delis and other places that serve food and alcohol are now permitted to deliver up to 192-ounces of beer, which also equals two six-packs.
On December 5, the PLCB issued an advisory opinion on Pennsylvania’s transporter-for-hire-license. This license only costs around $1,000 and authorizes the transportation of alcohol. The license has been around for some time, but prior to this decision, the Bureau of Licensing said that owners of alcohol-serving establishments could not have a regular liquor license and be a transporter for hire.
There are a few restrictions. The only thing that can be purchased is beer, and customers have to pay with a credit or debit card before anything is delivered.
Amy Christie, the executive director of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association says, “Overall, this is a great win.” Cheers to that.
