Historic, Former Ugly American Space Will House New Bar, Keystone
The former home of Ugly American at Front and Federal has been vacant since early 2015, but will see a revival sometime next spring when Keystone will open in its place. Owned and operated by Sean Glynn, Bryan Tone, and Steve Papa, Keystone will stick to an old-timey theme, honoring the historic status of the building itself.
No chef has yet been named, but the one identifying feature of Keystone is set in, well, stone - all 12 taps will exclusively serve beer made right here in Pennsylvania. Of course, Philadelphians are well aware that this state is filled with amazing beer, craft and otherwise, so it’s about time that a brave bar stepped up and started serving Keystone State beer. (There will be bottles and cans available as well - though they will likely also be mostly, if not all, PA brands. That has not yet been confirmed.)
One more delay is regaining a liquor license for the space, due to its designation as a “historic building,” but the current estimate for opening is May 2016. Stay tuned for more details as they arise.
