Malbec Argentine Steakhouse Set to Open Soon in Headhouse Square
Owned by native Cuban Miriam Porto, who spent 30 years in the restaurant industry bringing Argentine cuisine to the US (she’s best known for her steakhouse, Madera, which is located in Long Island City), Malbec will cook its meat according to traditional Argentine recipes and customs, meaning over an enormous charcoal grill.
Beyond Malbec’s multitudinous food options (which will be fresh every day and range from empanadas and paella to flan and dulce de leche pancakes for dessert), the bar will specialize in fresh cocktails and Argentinian wines and beers -- all of the ingredients will be squeezed and blended in-house, and in addition to a huge Malbec selection, the bar will serve craft beers and other red wines. The signature cocktail will be the traditional Argentine drink, Fernet and Coke.
Malbec should be opening any day now (in November, owners were hoping for an opening night event sometime in the first or second week of December), so keep an eye out for Argentinian action in Headhouse in the next few weeks.
