Scarpetta, a high-end spot that first opened in New York and has since spread to the Hamptons, Miami, and Las Vegas, will open in the
Rittenhouse Hotel sometime this summer.
Replacing Smith & Wollensky, which closed last year, Scarpetta is best described as “modern Italian,” and is famous for its tomato and basil spaghetti (with a fresh, inventive sauce and house-made pasta). As for drinks, judging by the menu at Scarpetta’s New York location, we can expect a combination of classic cocktails (like Manhattans and Sidecars) alongside barrel-aged Negronis and inventive drinks like the Il Bandito (peperoncino-infused mezcal, Cointreau, lime, and “lava salt”) and the San Remo (Carpano Antica, Campari, St. Germain, bourbon, and citrus).
This isn’t the first upscale, out-of-town spot that’s opened in Philly — nearby Scarpetta’s future home is
Serafina, a ritzy New York-based pizza chain that sprouted up a few years ago. (Of course, we also got a
Cheesecake Factory outpost, but it’s best to not think about that too much.) Between our own culinary revolution and the fine dining establishments coming to Philly en masse, Philly residents would have to actually
try to have a bad meal in the city these days.
