Yards Brewing Company is Moving To Spring Garden
Yards Brewery is on the move with a plan to relocate to a larger facility at 5th and Spring Garden, the former location of Destination Maternity Corp.
Yards has been in Philadelphia from the very beginning — since 1994 to be exact — and has promised to stick around. “We were courted by a number of municipalities outside Philadelphia, but we’re Philadelphia’s beer,” Yards COO Trevor Prichett told Philadelphia Magazine. The new location is not only easier to access than the current brewery, but it will be an excellent addition to the revitalization of a rather under-utilized section of Spring Garden Street.
Although nothing is set in stone at the moment, Yards is working with the NLNA Zoning Committee to get permission to use the space for the manufacturing practices of a brewery. The building was originally intended to be a creative office space, but was rezoned last November for mixed use. Yards and the NLNA are in talks to work out how they would handle things like special events, waste management, noise, and parking. Since the zoning would be an attachment to the building in case Yards ever decides to leave, they have plenty of details to work out before the lease is signed.
The new facility would open late next year, if all goes according to plan. Fingers crossed for a bigger and better location for Philly’s beer!
