Dogfish Head's Newest Beer Is Nautically Inspired

by Jennifer Waldera on Aug 16, 2016 in Beer

What could say "summer in Charm City" more than a partnership between a beach-based brewing company from neighboring Delaware and Baltimore's notable aquarium?

Released on August 1, SeaQuench Ale was revealed in the partnership between the National Aquarium and Dogfish Head Brewery. The sour beer is a hybrid of three German style ales intentionally created to invoke the flavor of the local waters, with an infusion of replicated sea salt sourced from both Maine and the Chesapeake Bay while also being infused with lime peel, lime juice, and black lime. It is both sessionable (4.9% ABV) and charitable.

“The National Aquarium's partnership with Dogfish Head is a natural collaboration due to our shared commitment to fostering community, nourishing artistic advancement and innovation, and cultivating environmental stewardship,” said John Racanelli, National Aquarium CEO.  “We’re looking forward to combining our efforts to achieve great things for the people and places of the Chesapeake Bay and beyond.”

In 2010, the Delaware-based brewery began its support of the National Aquarium via corporate membership. Since then, Dogfish Head’s philanthropy has helped the Aquarium make an impact to achieve a healthier Chesapeake Bay through various initiatives.
As a result, Dogfish Head has become the official craft beer of the National Aquarium. Dogfish’s brews and spirits are offered in the National Aquarium’s café year-round and are also available at some of the National Aquarium’s events.

“Both of our organizations have a longstanding commitment to championing sustainability,” said Sam Calagione, founder and president of Dogfish Head Brewery. “We believe our SeaQuench Ale is the perfect vessel to launch this union.”

SeaQuench Ale is a citrusy, tart blend of three different German-style beers, and the National Aquarium logo will be featured on the SeaQuench Ale label.
