The South Street Spring Festival is Back with Maifest & Tons of Restaurants, May 6
Just one day after Cinco de Mayo, head right back out for the South Street Spring Festival on Saturday, May 6 from 11 AM - 8 PM, which includes Brauhaus Schmitz’s Maifest, a massive celebration of National Comic Book Day, a performance of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and more. The festival will take over South Street from Front to 8th and Headhouse Plaza.
Over 35 restaurants, including spots new to the festival like Banh Mi and Bottles, Nomad Pizza, Spice End, and Malbec, will have setups along the long street route serving sips and bites to show off their wares, so bring a strong appetite (and some cash for the vendors). Aside from all the food and drink, you can enjoy shows and presentations at the South Street Sideshow Stage for National Comic Book Day, including a performance of “Time Warp” from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, a Philly Taco eating contest (and yes, we do mean the infamous “Philly Taco”), and more.
Maifest, a classic part of the South Street Spring Festival, is also returning for its 5th year. Hosted by Brauhaus Schmitz, this German beer festival in the 700 block of South Street will run from 11 AM - 7 PM and is also open to the public with pay-as-you-go refreshments, although VIP tickets, which include an appetizer buffet, private restrooms, food and beer tokens, exclusive beers, and a commemorative stein, will cost you $100. Plenty of German food and beers will be available, and you’ll also be able to listen to live German music and see performances throughout the day.
Make this weekend a great one with the South Street Spring Festival — there’s certainly no shortage of fun things to do with this event.
