Negroni Week 2017 is Featuring Negroni-Inspired Food Across the Nation

by Alexander Frane on Jun 6, 2017 in Roundups

Negroni Week, running from June 5 to June 11, is an international fundraiser and celebration of all things Negroni. The Italian cocktail, made from equal parts gin, Campari (a bittersweet liqueur), and sweet vermouth, is especially popular amongst bartenders, and during Negroni Week, thousands of bars and restaurants across the globe deliver their own unique take on the drink. Each spot also donates a portion of each sold to a charity of its choice.

Now in its fifth year, bartenders and chefs are looking for ways to branch out from the traditional negroni, and are even moving outside of the cocktail world to do so. Last year saw a few negroni inspired food items, and this year is looking to have even more. Here are some delicious, negroni inspired, and even infused, dishes from around the country. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of them in are in New York.

The Nugget Spot (New York City)
Negroni Nuggets
The Nugget Spot is exactly what it sounds like: a restaurant specializing in golden fried chicken nuggets. The place boasts a variety of flavors, including buffalo spiced and “Cap’n Crunk”, with slightly sweet cereal batter, but this year it’s also offering Negroni Nuggets: lightly battered chicken nuggets with a “negroni-inspired glaze”, garnished with orange peel and fresh mint.

Duane Park Patisserie (New York City)
Negroni Ring Dings
Duane Park Patisserie is an established pastry shop offering French, German, and Austrian sweets. This year, it’s baking up some Negroni Ring Dings: Mini three-layer cakes, with a gin flavored layer, a sweet vermouth flavored layer, and a campari cream filling. The whole thing is covered in an orange flavored chocolate shell for one delicious serving.

The Progress (San Francisco)
Negroni Italian-ish
James Beard Award-winning restaurant The Progress is making sandwiches for Negroni Week—negroni sandwiches. The Italian-ish is made with soppressata, capicola, and “pig fries”—fried crispy pig ears—then topped with a Campari-chili aioli. It’s best paired with a thyme roasted cherry negroni.

The Doughnut Project (New York City)
Negronuts
The Doughnut Project in New York City makes hand-crafted small batch doughnuts, often inspired by New York dishes or cocktails. The Negronut is filled Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth whipped cream, and has a Campari glaze drizzled with orange compote.

Butter and Scotch (New York City)
Negroni Pop Tarts
A bakery, coffee shop, and cocktail bar, Butter and Scotch in New York serves sweet treats with cocktails. In the case of the Negroni Pop Tarts, it’s putting the drink right in the dessert: These flaky pastries are filled with negroni custard and topped with a Campari and orange frosting, along with sprinkles.

The Horny Ram (New York City)
Negroni Pony Waffle
The Horny Ram in New York is a homey, rustic restaurant that serves dinner, lunch, and a “bottomless” drink brunch every weekend. The rainbow colored Negroni Pony Waffle, an orange flavored waffle served with a negroni (which is garnished with a toy pony) is only available on the weekend brunch, from June 10 to June 11.

Tartine Manufactory (San Francisco)
Deconstructed Negroni Sundae
It’s hard to define what the Tartine Manufactory is in San Francisco. A chic industrial space, it serves coffee, baked goods, and a small but comprehensive menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items, as well as beer and wine. For Negroni Week the Tartine Manufactory is making a Deconstructed Negroni Sundae, with orange blossom ice cream, strawberry, Campari pate de fruit, and a juniper meringue for the gin flavor.

The Break Room 86 (Los Angeles)
Coconut Negroni Ice Cream Sandwich
The Break Room 86 in LA offers food, cocktails, karaoke, video games, and live shows. For Negroni Week this year, the trendy bar will be serving up Coconut Negroni Ice Cream Sandwiches, which are exactly what they sound like. The ice cream comes from Coolhaus, an ice cream sandwich maker with two SoCal stores, nationwide distribution, and a fleet of ten mobile ice cream trucks and carts.
