Welcome to Philly’s Best Happy Hours, our new feature highlighting great happy hours in different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Since Drink Philly started out as a place to find happy hours in the city, we thought it was only right to return to our roots and turn the spotlight on some of Philly’s absolute best happy hour deals.
Rooster Soup Company is a charitable effort from
Cook N Solo, Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook’s restaurant group — alongside salads and sandwiches, they serve soup made using the chicken bones and carcasses from
Federal Donuts, with all proceeds going to the
Broad Street Ministry. This cozy space feels like a classic diner, all the while churning out top-notch food (would we expect anything else from Solomonov?) and well-mixed cocktails while maintaining a casual, approachable atmosphere.
Their happy hour is particularly excellent and features $6 cocktails, $3 beers (with 4 rotating beers on draft), $6 wines, and $4 meatballs from 5 PM - 7 PM every Monday through Friday at the bar only. A well-made cocktail for $6 is hard to find, even at happy hour, and this list runs the gamut from classic to completely unique, making this a pretty unbeatable deal. The beer taps change every week or so, and cocktail selections include:
Rooster Bloody Mary (Tito’s vodka, Israeli salad water, schug, hawaij)
Moscow Mule (vodka, ginger beer, lemon)
Rooster Island Iced Tea (vodka, rum, tequila, lime, amaro)
Whiskey Sour (bourbon, lemon, egg white, bitters)
Penicillin (scotch, ginger, honey, lemon)
Schug-a-Rita (blanco tequila, lime, chiles, cilantro)
"I think it’s the best under the radar deal going on in this neighborhood,” says Mike Mongiello, the head bartender. “We’re surrounded by great happy hours, but you can get an interesting cocktail and a full meal here for a reasonable price — two cocktails and an appetizer will only run you around $15. Plus, getting drunk for charity doesn’t hurt.”
Stop by Rooster Soup Company today for an after-work drink, a mug of smoked matzoh ball soup, and an excellent deal — with your check going to a good cause.
