D.C. Is Getting a 'Game of Thrones' Pop-Up Bar For the Summer

by The Drink Nation on Jun 12, 2017 in Culture

D.C. is getting a Game of Thrones pop-up bar — three of them, in fact. Drink Company (run by Derek Brown and Angie Fetherston) is turning three of its restaurants — Mockingbird Hill, Southern Efficiency, and Eat the Rich — into Westerosi watering holes from June 21 through August 27.

Thanks to local D.C. artists and designers, each restaurant will represent a different region from the Game of Thrones universe. Eat the Rich will be transformed into the Red Keep, Southern Efficiency will be the Hall of Faces (complete with plaster casts of the staff’s faces), and Mockingbird Hill will feature two different regions, with the North (including a weirwood tree) taking over their front bar and their back bar becoming the city of Mereen, with dragon sculpture hanging from the ceiling.

The drinks, which will range from $13-$15, will be themed after the show as well, including the Imp’s Delight (a Tyrion-inspired drink made with two different fortified wines), the tequila-based Shame (a reference to Cersei’s infamous walk that comes garnished with a little bell), and the Dracarys (a sherry mai-tai named for one of Dany’s dragons. Two drinks will require you to leave your ID with the bartender, as one, the North Remembers, is a scotch-based drink served out of a horn, and the second, the Lady Mormont, is served in a bear-shaped glass. If you’re not a cocktail fan, Ommegang’s Game of Thrones inspired beers will be on draft.

While the bartenders will be in costume and the show’s score will play, the bar will not offer screenings of the show, and will even close early (at 7 PM) on Sundays so the staff can go home and watch. If you’ve always wanted to drink like a Lannister or a Stark, be sure to head to any of these three bars so you can visit the Seven Kingdoms for a night.
