Nick Elmi's Royal Boucherie Is Now Open in Old City
Nick Elmi, owner of ITV and Laurel in South Philly, has added another restaurant to his collection — Royal Boucherie in Old City.
Described as an American brasserie with a French feel, Royal Boucherie features a menu of classic cocktails, French wines, and cozy, original dishes housed inside a uniquely decorated interior within an old rowhome.
Elmi and his crew took a dilapidated building and rebuilt it from the ground up, stripping the floors down to find hardwood fixtures from the mid-19th century and exposing the brick walls for a homey look. The restaurant itself features a raw bar, a full seated bar, and a first floor dining room, with a second-floor private event space coming soon.
The cocktail menu is stocked with classic cocktails and notes where they were all created, like the Gibson (gin, french vermouth, pickled onions, $12), created by Charles Dana Gibson in San Francisco in 1980, or the Seelbach (bourbon, curacao, bitters, sparkling wine, $13) created by Adam Seger in Louisville, KY in 1995.
As for the food menu, you'll find a full raw bar, small plates like champagne braised escargot ($15) and steak tartare ($14), snacks like smoked trout croquettes ($8) and Swedish duck meatballs ($9), and entrees like steak au poivre ($32) and seared duck breast ($27).
Head to Old City to try out Chef Elmi's newest spot, and you won't regret it — it's the perfect addition to this bustling neighborhood, and no matter the time of day or year, you'll want to settle in to one of Royal Boucherie's cozy booths and order some oysters and a stiff drink.
