Yards' New Brewery on Spring Garden is Now Open
Yards Brewing Co. has a brand new space at 5th & Spring Garden with a new taproom, an excellent local chef, and more, and it opens on Thursday, November 16.
The 70,000 square foot space features Yards' first ever kitchen, which will be run by James Burke, a 3-time James Beard Award semifinalist who once ran James in South Philly and has worked under Starr, Vetri, and other excellent chefs. Burke has created a menu of snacks, plates and sandwiches that include wings, Bavarian pretzels, a full BBQ platter, fried chicken sandwiches, and fish & chips. They'll also offer a robust dessert menu, including beer floats using Yards' own brews.
“Yards is continuing Philadelphia’s brewing history, carrying on the proud and rich traditions of Philly’s breweries that came before us,” says Founder and Brewmaster Tom Kehoe. “Those early breweries were very much stitched to the fabric of the city, serving as integral parts of the community and helping lead downtown revival efforts. Since opening our doors in 1994, that is something we have always strived to do – and this investment only strengthens that commitment.”
Speaking of beer, guests will be able to see the entire brewing operation, which will nearly double Yards' current beer output — and they've got some big plans in the works, including Yards' first line of canned beers. Over 20 taps will be available, including seasonal rotating brews that will be exclusive to the brewery space itself.
The space fits 280 people and features an open floor plan, a bar made from recycled bowling lanes, and a Brewer's Lounge with a pool table, shuffleboard, darts, and a TV. Upstairs, you can book a 200-person private event space that looks over the brewery for whatever you might need.
For the opening weekend, hours will be Thursday from 6 PM - 11 PM, Friday from 5 PM to 11 PM, Saturday from 11:30 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday from 11:30 AM to 10 PM. From November 18 on, the hours will be Monday through Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 10 PM, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 AM to 11 PM, Saturdays from 11 AM - 11 PM, and Sundays from 11 AM to 10 PM.
