Philly's Best Happy Hours: Oyster House's Buck-a-Shuck Deals, $5 Punch, & $3 Beers
Welcome to Philly’s Best Happy Hours, a feature highlighting great happy hours in different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Since Drink Philly started out as a place to find happy hours in the city, we thought it was only right to return to our roots and turn the spotlight on some of Philly’s absolute best happy hour deals.
This week, we're featuring Oyster House, the Center City seafood haven that originally opened in 1947. Originally located on Mole Street and initially named Kelly's, original owner Samuel Mink kept the business going until 1967, when his son, David, took over, moved it to Sansom Street, and renamed the entire place. It underwent extensive renovations in 2008 thanks to David's son, Sam (named after his grandfather), who created the Oyster House we know today.
Thanks to its excellent raw bar, perfectly fresh fish, excellent bartenders, and extensive gin collection (known for one of the city's best martinis, Oyster House makes its own vermouth in house), this old-school Philadelphia institution has found new life time and time again, and is now home to one of the city's busiest happy hours.
From Monday through Friday from 5 PM - 7 PM, you can fight your way into a bar, high-top, or window seat at Oyster House, which hosts one of the most popular happy hours in all of Philadelphia.
The specials are excellently priced and cover everything you could possibly want for an after-work snack, including $1 oysters and $1 clams alongside $3 beers and $3 shooters, which are raw oysters submerged in different boozy shots, meant to be thrown back as one bite.
You can also get a glass of the day's wine for just $5, and the varietals rotate frequently, as does Kelly's Punch, the happy hour cocktail special that will run you just $5.
Next time you're in Center City, stop into Oyster House for impeccably fresh oysters, a perfectly mixed punch, and whatever shooter they're featuring at the time — that is, if you can get a seat.
