The International is Now Open in Kensington
The International, the latest project from the owners of Standard Tap & Johnny Brenda's, is now open at 1624 N Front St., underneath the El.
The space, created by William Reed and Paul Kimport, is made up of two bars with two different feels — downstairs, you can enjoy craft beer from all over the world, and the space is outfitted with a DJ booth for late-night dance parties, much like Johnny Brenda's.
Upstairs, at the bar made out of an old airplane wing, there's more of a focus on craft cocktails, with a 24-tap Cruvinet serving wine, sherry, vermouth, and fortified wines alongside plenty of cocktails. Drinks will be made using the bar's own brand of rye, Service Bar Rye, a collaboration with local distillery Rowhouse Spirits — and as for other spirits, they're keeping those local as well, even though the downstairs beer selection will be, well, international. While you're upstairs, be sure to check out the corner shuffleboard table.
The food menu is made up of light bites — think casual finger food — and was created by chef Paul Lyons, if you need a snack to go with your Service Bar Rye Old Fashioned.
As for hours, the bar will be closed on Mondays and open from 11 AM to 2 AM every Tuesday through Sunday, so stop into The International today to try out a new rye, grab an imported beer, or admire the inventive, well-outfitted space.
