PA Voter Project Seeks to Pay Unemployed Restaurant Workers to Work Election Polls
Election season is upon us, and a new nonpartisan nonprofit group, The Voter Project is seeking to fill empty election worker seats for the 2020 election— which takes place on November 3 — with their new campaign, Power the Polls. Due to the pandemic, PA is facing a shortage in election workers, and The Voter Project aims to remedy that. Their goal is to fill 15,000 poll worker positions in PA, and they'll even pay volunteers for their time. Each poll worker will be paid $250 for a full day of work.
Power the Polls PA is looking for out of work restaurant workers to work the polls. Most typical poll workers are over the age of 60, so in doing so, the goal in seeking restaurant workers will help recruit the next younger generation of poll workers. This is your chance to help out your local community, uphold democracy, and make a little something extra on the side for your time. “Maintaining safe, in-person voting is critical for communities throughout Pennsylvania,” says Senior Advisor Susan Gobreski. “Everyone should be able to vote in a safe and convenient way, whether in person or by mail, and we need to recruit thousands of poll workers to fight voter intimidation and assist voters, especially those who have disabilities or need language assistance, at the polls.”
Power the Polls PA is a collaboration among nonprofit organizations, businesses, and civic organizations such as Civic Alliance, Comedy Central, Fair Elections Center, MTV, Pizza for the Polls, and We Can Vote.
