City Hall's Christmas Village Offers Options for Drinkers
When you think of the family-oriented Christmas Village at City Hall, it is unlikely that alcohol is one of the first things that come to mind. However, drinkers can rejoice with the knowledge that there are several vendors that cater to their favorite pastime.
The Village has been drawing crowds of over 150,000 people per year to Dilworth Plaza on the West side of City Hall since 2008. It is based on 15th-century German markets which continue to pop up in large cities around Germany to sell various holiday goods around Christmas time.
Thanks to Pennsylvania’s largest winery, Chaddsford, visitors of the Philadelphia village can imbibe by the mug, glass, or bottle. The vendor serves mulled wine which is a typical Christmas drink that is spiced and served warm. The wine can be paired with a number of delicious German-inspired food choices such as Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, and Stollen which is a German Holiday Cake. Jersey based "Ed’s Gifts Galore" also has a stand that sells a number of ornate beer steins for people who want to enjoy their drinks in the comfort of their own homes.
Admission is free and the last day to enjoy the Village is Christmas Eve until 5 PM and it is open every other day until 8 PM.
