Philadelphia Ranked #1 for Holiday Spirit
That’s right. U.S. Airways Magazine declared that Philadelphia has the most holiday spirit, beating out cities all over the world. Take that redcoats.
The objective of the holidays isn’t to be the best, or to have the most spirit. It’s about giving, caring, and unifying in harmony for Christmas and New Years. It’s also about compassion, and none of these things can be accurately measured in the big picture.
But who cares. We Philadelphians love winning things. We have a passion about our city that is incomparable, and we love being the best. The best at sports, the best at cheese steak…ing, the best at brewing, and the best at Yule Tiding (which we can assume means drinking). No matter what the event or activity, we are going to come out on top, or scream until whoever happens to be at the top starts crying and runs to their therapist to work out whatever repressed childhood issues we surfaced from their subconscious.
Amongst other honorable mentions on the magazine’s top fifteen list are Boston, Vienna-Austria, Rome, New York, and coming in at number two: London.
Much is owed the century old Wanamaker Organ. Located in Macy’s, formerly the Wanamaker department store, the world largest operational pipe organ bellows out music against the high walls of the seven-story building daily as an accompaniment to a light show narrated by Julie Andrews. You can experience it first hand twice a day, six days a week at Macy’s in Center City.
Still other features we all know and love are Christmas Village at City Hall, Boathouse Row, Street Decorations, and of course, Holiday Drinking Events! We are proud to be a part of a city with such a rich culture of doing everything better than anyone else.
From everyone at Drink Philly we hope you have a safe and joyous holiday season and wish you the best. We also hope that you experience the holiday spirit that put us at number one on this list.
