Noble: Enjoying its Details
Everyone involved in the making and running of Noble American Cookery has paid much attention to detail, and it shows.
The bar, a 21-foot solid piece of naturally fallen 400-year-old Bubinga tree from Cameroon, begs you to sit and enjoy one of Noble’s signature cocktails. It doesn’t stop there, look for other hidden gems throughout the building. The steps are white oak, procured from a 150-year-old barn. Skylights on the second floor separate rooftop gardens that give the chefs fresh herbs and vegetables during the summer.
Noble’s ephemeral offerings match its well-designed interior. The featured happy hour cocktail during my visit, Royal Stuart, was a refreshing scotch-based drink. The grapefruit and ginger beer in the Royal Stuart left a pleasant bitter after taste. That, and the French ’75 convinced me that Noble’s drink recipes hang with the best of Philly’s signature cocktail scene.
The chickpea fries and gnocchi complemented the complexity of the cocktails. The chickpea fries, which are shaped like polenta fries, and its accompanying tomato dip, are reminiscent of a superb chana masala dish. Bartender Michael Faruolo told me people come back to Noble for the gnocchi. As each piece of the appetizer melted in my mouth, I knew I would be back also.
Noble’s happy hour features $3 beers, $6 wines, and a $6 cocktail. They also have a late night happy hour on Saturdays where they carry the same specials but also offer a complimentary pint of beer with an appetizer or burger.
If you’re into wickedly good Bloody Marys and Mimosas, starting February 26th, Noble will be offering their awesome brunch on both Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2:30pm.
Happy Hour: Tuesday-Friday 5-7pm
Late Night: Saturday 10pm-Midnight
