World's Spiciest Beer - Ghost Face Killah: LIVE Broadcast Tasting 5/20 at 6pm
Check out the recording from the live stream tasting we did of the world's spiciest beer.
Hip-hop artist Ghostface Killah (member of the Wu-Tang Clan) has become the unofficial inspiration behind Twisted Pine Brewing‘s “Ghost Face Killah”, which is being labeled as the world’s hottest beer. The beverage also gets it’s name from being partially brewed with the “Ghost pepper", one of the hottest peppers in existence.
Why has he been deemed the “Unofficial” inspiration? General manager of Twisted Pine Brewing, Jody Valenta, reports they tried to contact the artist for permission to use his name and to work out a partnership, but without a response were forced to venture elsewhere.
So (with the blessing of trademark lawyers) Twisted Pine’s named their beer “Ghost Face Killah” after a character the from the late 70’s film which Ghostface had originally drawn inspiration from for his stage name. Valenta notes that by splitting the name “Ghostface” into two words, she is confident there won’t be any problems.
The beer itself is a wheat beer infused with six notoriously hot peppers, the Anaheim, Fresno, Jalapeno, Serrano, habanero and the infamous Naga Jolokia, or Ghost Pepper. After the fermentation process it is then dry hopped with the six peppers. It will be a limited edition brew with only one-hundred bottles being released.
For those unfamiliar with the "heat ranking" of peppers, Scoville Units are used as a frame of reference for how hot certain chilies are. The ‘Ghost Chile’ ranks at around 1,000,000 units, with traditional Tabasco Sauce being between 2,500-5000, and weapons grade pepper spray at 5,300,000 units.
