The Vendy Awards took place this past Saturday, and what a delicious day it was!

The Vendys have taken place in New York for the past six years, where they've celebrated the amazing food culture that street vendors have lovingly created. This year marks the inaugural Philadelphia Vendy Awards, helping to promote the awesome food truck culture we have in the city.

This year, we had the following contestants:

Gigi and Big R's (2011 Vendy Cup Winner)
Cucina Zapata (People's Choice Winner)
Sweetbox Cupcakes (Dessert Winner)
Sugar Philly
Guapos Tacos
Magic Carpet
King of Falafel
La Copine

Attendees were able to sample food from all the trucks, along with complimentary beer, wine and other beverages.

Gigi and Big R's served up soul food, including jerk chicken, fried fish, mac and cheese, green beans and yams. This was an easy favorite for Drink Philly staff. Cucina Zapata served up Thai and Mexican food, including a thai shortrib taco that was ridiculously delicious.

Tickets for the event were completely sold out, and with good reason. The food here was all amazing, and folks who showed up right at the start could easily eat their fill.

When the 2012 Vendy Awards roll around, make sure to get your tickets early. The success of this year's will only make the next one that much more of a treat.
