Philadelphia Drink of the Week: Irish Coffee at Fado Irish Pub
We're guessing you're aware that St. Patrick’s Day is this weekend. While the wonderfully warm weather may have you dreaming of refreshing brews and cold cocktails, there’s another great drink that came out of Ireland, one that is perfect for the end of the evening when a nip reminds us that it is still, in fact, officially winter.
Locust Street’s Fado Irish Pub puts out an Irish Coffee based on the original invented in the 1930s in Foynes, Limerick. During World War II, the town became one of the largest seaports in Europe, thanks to its location on the western edge of the continent, and the limited airspan of planes at the time.
Legend has it that coffee drink was created to soothe the rattled, wet and chilled souls who stopped at port during travel. Check out the recipe below, or get your Irish on at Center City’s Fado instead.

1 tbsp. dark brown sugar
6 oz. fresh hot coffee
2 oz. fresh whipped cream
