Drink Your Way Through Philly Tech Week, April 19-27
The third annual Philly Tech Week Presented by AT&T takes over Philadelphia in late April. There are more than 85 events scheduled, and to help you have the most fun while learning and networking, we’ve pulled the happenings that involve a few drinks.
Philly Geek Brunch
8–9:30 AM, Friday, April 19; $20
Green Eggs Cafe (212 S. 13th St.)
Join the early kick-off crowd at this Midtown Village bruncherie for a great morning wakeup. Your ticket brings bottomless coffee, tea and juice, an entree and a side (they're big portions) and also some free booze to mix in. Tickets here.
PONG Played on the Cira Centre
8–10 PM, Friday, April 19 and 8–10 PM, Wednesday, April 24
Art Museum Steps
Kick off Philly Tech Week by watching the world's largest video game played on the side of the Cira Centre, an awesome spectacle that will take place thanks to the efforts of Drexel's Dr. Frank Lee. For a chance to play the game yourself, enter the lottery at Ph.ly/Pong, or just RSVP to watch here. Drink details aren't locked down yet, but we hear there might a taste or two to be had.
Drink Philly Digital Arts Gallery
6–9 PM, Saturday, April 20
Drink Philly World Headquarters (239 Chestnut St., Suite 2B)
We couldn’t wait to have another art showing, and this one will take on a tech focus. Per usual, we’ll offer beer and snacks. Stay tuned for more details here and on this site.
Zapping the Aliens and Saving the Universe While Drinking Beer
6–9 PM, Sunday, April 21
Grey Lodge Pub (6235 Frankford Ave.)
This is a great excuse to get out to the Northeast and visit one of Philly’s best beer bars. Scoats and co. will be hooking up retro video games so you can zap aliens while drinking from the giant draft list. Look for techno music on the jukebox and maybe some eight bit tunes too. Details here and here.
Philly Give and Get
7–10 PM, Thursday, April 26; donation $10–$100
National Mechanics (22 S. 3rd St.)
This charity “date” auction combines professional networking with community engagement. Basically, you’ll get a chance to bid on hanging out with some of the coolest and most-connected folks in Philly. Plus, everything benefits the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Technology. Bring some cash and a desire to go on an adventure and learn something new. No smooching required. RSVP here.
Philly Tech Week Signature Event
6–9 PM, Friday, April 26; $30
Urban Outfitters Headquarters at the Navy Yard
Join the rest of the Philly tech crowd for an open beer/wine bar, plenty of hors d’oeuvres and a huge exhibit hall of local technology to play with. It’s a great way to close out the week and follow up on all the connections you’ve made. RSVP here. (Check out a video from last year's party here)
Make & Toss “Light Graffiti”
8 PM–midnight, Saturday, April 27
3rd Ward (12276 N. 4th St.)
The newly opened coworking and maker space above Girard Avenue is hosting a cocktail party (with both food and drink provided) where you’ll also get to make LED magnets. The “toss” part comes in when you head out to Germantown Avenue and throw the glowing bits up on buildings, creating “light graffiti.” RSVP here.
