Riesling Smackdown at McCrossen's Tavern, Aug 7
The Summer of Riesling continues at McCrossen’s Tavern in Fairmount on Tuesday, August 7, with an Old World vs. New World wine smackdown. Sip on five of each type of the varietal and rate them according to five categories: austere, porch pounder, transcendent, slutty and opulent. Can you find all that in a glass? If the wine guys (John Toler of Dreadnought Imports and Jimmy Nolan of Vine Street Imports) do their jobs right, the answer is decidedly “yes!”
Entry to the 7 PM event will run you $30, which brings all the tastes of the 10 wines you need to make an educationally informed decision. While you’re at the upscale tavern, don’t miss your chance to order a few of chef Tod Wentz’ bar bites like tomato caprese salad (they’re finally in season) and crispy pig tails ($8). May the best wine win.
