Duke's Surf Bar Pop-Up at Rum Bar a Success
Last Thursday, a small alcove in Rittenhouse was transformed into a tropical isle. Or at least, the best part of one. For a day, Adam Kanter’s Rum Bar was turned into Duke’s Surf Bar, a true tiki bar complete with a list of secret recipe tiki drinks.
Lei-adorned guests sipped on colorful drinks out of shrunken head mugs and parasol-topped glasses. Beverages came courtesy of bartenders Phoebe Esmon and Katie Loeb (a drinks author who also helped create the cocktail recipes), and had names like Viking Funeral, Pele’s Revenge and Pearl Diver’s Punch.
The bar was packed all evening long, with guests vying for space next to a pair of full-size surfboards and plenty of pineapples. Hopefully, if Kanter can find investors, this pop-up will turn into a real life establishment — he already has a location in mind. Check out all the photos from fun night on Flickr here.
