Harry Potter Weekend and Pub Crawl in Chestnut Hill, October 26-28
This weekend, Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill will be transformed into a Hogsmeade Village, with Harry Potter themed activities and events for kids and adults alike. From a Quidditch tournament to a sorting hat demonstration to a pub crawl, the street will be overflowing with characters and places from J.K. Rowling’s books.
On Friday, October 26, everything kicks off with the 6 PM opening ceremony at the Top of the Hill Fountain Plaza. At 7 PM, the pub crawl and scavenger hunt begins. Participating bars include Chestnut Hill Grill, Chestnut 7, McNally’s, Tavern on the Hill, Flying Fish and Iron Hill Brewery and reservations are required to participate — call 215-247-6696. That evening there’s also an 8 PM ghost tour and several other children-friendly events.
Saturday, October 27, things continue with a morning Quidditch tournament at Chestnut Hill College (it starts at 9:30 AM and last through 6 PM, so come prepared), a daylong “Hunt for the Horcrux” with Dumbledore, Harry, Hermione and Ron from 11 AM–4:30 PM, and an evening magic show, ghost walk and more.
Sunday, October 28, head back to Chestnut Hill College for a Quidditch 101 lesson (at both 11 AM and 4:30 PM) and don’t miss the Halloween parade (1 PM) and subsequent trick or treating for kids along the avenue from 24 PM. The weekend closes with a free Halloween concert at St. Martin’s in the Field church at 4 PM, followed by a ghoulish reception with treats for all.
Both muggles and wizards are sure to have a good time — check the official website and the Maruder's Map for detailed information.
