Warm Up: 9 Philadelphia Bars with Fireplaces
If you’re looking for a crackling fire to compliment your cocktail as you socialize with friends, have dinner, or to hypnotize you as you get lost in your thoughts, you can add these nine places to your list.
Manayunk Brewing Company
Have a flight in front of the fireplace in a semi-outdoor room, where it roars year round to let you enjoy the outside while staying-in, even when the weather disagrees. (4120 Main St.; 215-482-8220)
Brauhaus Schmitz
It’s always Oktoberfest when you drain a stein (30 beers on tap) or a bottle (90 to choose from) by the stove in the Brauer Bund room. (718 South St.; 267-909-8814)
Twisted Tail
Not one, but two fireplaces await you upstairs in the Club Room lounge furnished with bourbon-barrel chairs, couches, TVs and a shuffleboard table, where you can also listen to live music shaking-on-in from the adjacent room, the “Juke Joint,” with bar. (509 S. 2nd St.; 215-558-2471)
Devil’s Alley
Enjoy their fireplace upstairs in the back with a pick off their draft, bottle, or cocktail list, or their four drafts for $6 special, the “Devil’s Local Sampler.” (1907 Chestnut St.; 215-751-0707)
Brittingham’s
Though totally renovated, The Elk Bar has preserved its original wood fireplace around which comfortable seating was placed to encourage a longer linger. Tall windows open wide onto several patios and decks, extending the bar outside whenever possible. (640 East Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill; 610-828-7351)
Devil’s Den
Noted again this year for its annual Fireplace Lighting Event on December 1st, look for their seasonal beer offering, currently under construction, to sip by the flames. (1148-1150 S. 11th St.; 215-339-0855)
Serrano
An old fashioned fireplace is the main attraction at the bar and dining room. Catch live music upstairs at Tin Angel when you’re done with dinner. There’s a bar there too. (200 S 2nd St.; 215-928-0770)
Liberté
The Sofitel Hotel lounge has one of the coziest fireplaces in town by which to sip a sophisticated cocktail from Le Bar. (120 S. 17th St.; 215-569-8300)
Peppercorn
The flickering flames reflect in the mirrored accents around plush banquette seating from the fireplace in the main diningroom of the space formerly known as George’s. Make your drink choices from a full bar. (503 West Lancaster Ave, Wayne; 610-964-2588)
