Groundhog Day is a big holiday around these parts, and the eyes of the nation will be focused on Punxsutawney Phil and our neighbors to the west. Instead of depending on a rodent to forecast the next six weeks, Perch Pub is using a much more scientific method: beer.

On 5 PM on Groundhog Day (Saturday, February 2), Perch Pub will tap two kegs of Belgian-style ales with very different profiles for The Brew Forecast. On the lighter side will be Goose Island Sofie, a 6.5% ABV farmhouse ale. Representing the flip side will be Ommegang Art of Darkness, a limited release Belgian strong dark ale that rings in at 8.9% ABV.

Whichever keg kicks first will forecast six more weeks of that beer on tap at the Avenue of the Arts bar. In order to help their brands along, reps from both breweries will be on hand, giving away raffle tickets with each pour purchased for a chance a prize from each company. The drawing will be at 9 PM, so head over to join Wade from Goose Island, Megan from Ommegang, and the entire Perch crew, and vote with your taste buds, instead of your shadow.
