Instacart Brings Same-Day Home Booze Delivery to Philadelphia
Though we’re still a long way from seeing real, meaningful liquor reforms here in the Keystone State, winds of change are nonetheless beginning to waft through the streets of the city and some of its surrounding communities.
This week, Instacart, a grocery delivery service that just launched in Philadelphia, got the go-ahead from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to deliver booze purchased from Fine Wine & Good Spirits shops to customers’ homes.
So in spite of the PLCB being stuck in a post-Prohibition temporal loop where tight restrictions, crappy selections and steep prices continue to suck most of the cheer out of our joyous juices, what we are witnessing here is one small step toward progress.
Sure the PLCB approved home delivery back in 2011, but like everything else the stubbornly antiquated booze authority begrudgingly pushes through, that convenience comes with its hassles. Instacart on the other hand simply takes orders, procures the goods requested and drops it all off on your doorstep within a few hours of receiving requests. What’s more, the service also delivers groceries from Super Fresh, BJ's Wholesale Club and Whole Foods. That’s quite a difference from PLCB’s home delivery, which after three-plus years still takes as much as a week to fulfill customers' orders.
Check it out and start getting booze delivered right to your door.
